Truck of the Year

Only the Titan has earned 2017 Truck of the Year from Truck Trend. It isn’t really surprising when you look at how Nissan completely overhauled this truck. The exterior looks more formidable. The engines are hard to beat. There are more features than ever before. On the other hand, the Toyota Tundra has not been updated in several years, and critics say it is showing its age. In U.S. News rankings, the Tundra dropped behind the Titan. The Toyota truck garnered 6.8 to 8.8 points for a total score of just 7.3. Titan scored 8.4 overall with a range of scores from 8.4 to 9! These rankings show that the Titan is leading the Tundra when it comes to comfort, performance, capability, and more.

Capability and Value

To achieve its best payload or tow ratings, Toyota utilizes one of two V8s. Nissan still provides a V6 for those who want a hauler at a more economical price. Needless to say, a V6 can save you money at a gas pump when compared to a V8. If you want a V8, Nissan has you covered. The Titan’s Endurance engine generates 390 horsepower and 401 lb.-ft. of torque. To handle power demands, Nissan has added a seven-speed automatic transmission to its lineup. With an extra gear, the Titan can offer more torque at lower speeds when pulling a heavy load. Tundras still have six-speed automatics. The 2017 Nissan Titan is also more aerodynamic than its predecessor, allowing it to do more with its horsepower. The truck has an active grille shutter to help improve fuel economy. Whether you look at city or highway fuel economy, the Titan pulls out ahead of the Tundra.

JD Power recently named the Titan XD as number one in trucks as rated by its APEAL study. Only the Titan trucks have Zero Gravity front and rear seats. These have been shown to offer maximum comfort for those who spend hours in the driver’s seat. Nissan is also offering the longest bumper-to-bumper warranty in the business. The Titan and Titan XD now come with five-year coverage for up to 100,000 miles. Toyota’s warranty stops at 60,000 miles.

One of a Kind

Beyond the standard 2017 Nissan Titan, the Titan XD has earned its own awards, such as the AutoGuide Truck of the Year. Only Nissan has a truck that fits into its own category. Stronger than a light duty truck, it approaches medium duty capability. Titan XD models achieve this with a special build that makes them tougher and more resilient if faced with big loads. Tundras are limited to 10,500 pounds, yet the Titan XD can tow 12,000 pounds. The V8 turbo optional engine delivers 555 lb.-ft. of torque for your toughest payloads. Also spurring its success, an Aisin heavy duty transmission is paired with the XD engines.
